One of Midtown Atlanta's biggest advantages over other intown neighborhoods is the sheer quality and quantity of its green space. Piedmont Park — Atlanta's most beloved public park — sits at the heart of the neighborhood, and the Atlanta Botanical Garden, Tanyard Creek Park, and the BeltLine Northside Trail all add to a network of outdoor spaces that make Midtown genuinely livable.
For a neighborhood this dense and walkable, the amount of accessible green space is remarkable. You can walk out your door, hit a trail, and be surrounded by trees and water within minutes. That's not something every Atlanta neighborhood can offer.
Piedmont Park
185 acresAtlanta's Central Park equivalent and the heartbeat of Midtown's outdoor life. The park stretches from the Midtown skyline to the edge of the Atlanta Botanical Garden, with the Lake Clara Meer at its center. On any given weekend, you'll find joggers on the trails, families on the Great Lawn, dogs in the off-leash area, and yoga classes scattered across the grass. The park also hosts major events including the annual Piedmont Park Arts Festival and summer concert series.
Highlights
- Lake Clara Meer
- Great Lawn
- Splash pad and amphitheater
- Dog park (off-leash area)
- Tennis and volleyball courts
- Walking and jogging trails

Atlanta Botanical Garden
30 acresAdjacent to Piedmont Park's north end, the Atlanta Botanical Garden is a world-class horticultural destination spanning 30 acres. The Canopy Walk — an elevated walkway through the treetops — is one of the most unique experiences in the city. Seasonal exhibitions bring visitors back throughout the year, from the winter Garden Lights show to the spring Orchid Daze display. It's the kind of place where you can spend two hours and still not see everything.

- Tropical rainforest conservatory
- Desert house
- Seasonal light installations
- Concert series
- Holiday garden lights
Tanyard Creek Park
21 acresA quieter green space on Midtown's western edge, Tanyard Creek Park offers a more natural, wooded experience than Piedmont Park. The park connects to the BeltLine's Northside Trail, making it a great stop on a longer walk or bike ride. The creek itself runs through a restored urban stream habitat, and the park's relative obscurity means you can often find a peaceful bench without fighting for space.
Highlights
- BeltLine Northside Trail connection
- Walking trails along Tanyard Creek
- Natural stream habitat
- Quiet and less crowded
- Adjacent to Bobby Jones Golf Course
Peachtree Creek Greenway
Miles of multi-use trailA newer addition to Atlanta's trail network, the Peachtree Creek Greenway is a multi-use path that follows Peachtree Creek through the urban landscape. Still being expanded, the greenway connects to the broader BeltLine trail system and offers a scenic, creek-side route for walkers, runners, and cyclists. It's a work in progress, but what's already open is well worth exploring.
Highlights
- Paved walking and biking trail
- Connects to the BeltLine system
- Scenic creek-side path
- Growing trail network
- Access points in Midtown and beyond

Insider Tips
Go to Piedmont Park early on weekends. The park fills up fast after 10 AM, especially around the Great Lawn and Lake Clara Meer. The best light for photos is in the first two hours after sunrise.
The Botanical Garden Canopy Walk is worth the admission. Even if you only have an hour, the elevated walk through the treetops is a unique experience you won't find elsewhere in Atlanta.
Tanyard Creek Park is the local secret. Most visitors don't know about this park. It's quieter, more natural, and a great escape from the Piedmont Park crowds.
Combine Piedmont Park with the Botanical Garden. They're adjacent — walk through the park, enter the garden from the south, and end at the Canopy Walk. It's the perfect Midtown morning.
